The images on these graphic wall quilts were derived from portions of film photographs which I manipulated with software to achieve a "mechanical aquatint". I navigate over each pixel in the photograph, and replace it with a square of randomly distributed dots- more dots for darker pixels, less for lighter. I use the resulting image file to create a screenprint positive, and then mordant-print and dye fabric with pomegranate.

The patterns on these quilted wall hangings were digitally designed and derived from the spectrogram of a 17 year cicada cycle audio recording from my back porch. The fabric in each quilt was mordant-printed and naturally dyed with indigo, buckthorn, foraged black walnut, pomegranate, or madder root.
